7 Inspirational Quotes for When You Hit a Slump 12

Lately I have been in a slump.  I keep thinking I am doing better, and then the slump hits again. This slump has seemed to last a little longer than what I am comfortable with, and I was fighting it…hard.  I had a friend say to me, “What happens when the therapist is having a bad day?”  Well, I am a therapist, and I love it, but I am also a person, a wife, a mother, and an imperfect human being.

I needed some inspiration.

I finally stopped fighting – at least in a frustrated way.  I read this quote last week, and it helped me let go, just a little.

Sometimes I resist change so much that I become brittle instead of more flexible.  Change happens.  Learning to accept that reality and move forward is a sign of strength.

One of the things that I think I have learned about this life is that we are all imperfect.  Social media sometimes presents a different picture, but no matter what people say online, we are imperfect. We have bad days. We make mistakes. Pretending perfection is exhausting.  I love the imperfections that I see in others, because that helps me feel normal.  It helps me learn.  It helps me keep trying.

So, what do you do when you hit a slump?

I did a little reading and came up with several inspirational quotes that have helped me.  Maybe they can help you as well.

One of my favorite quotes: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” by Steve Jobs. There’s something about that quote that pushes me towards following my dreams and trying to make them a reality. I know he was a controversial person but he had some great things to say too.

Great collection of quotes. My inspirational quote is a poem: Island by Langston Hughes. Sometimes I find myself repeating it over and over.

    Wave of sorrow,
    Do not drown me now:

    I see the island
    Still ahead somehow.

    I see the island
    And its sands are fair:

    Wave of sorrow,
    Take me there.
