Lately I have been in a slump. I keep thinking I am doing better, and then the slump hits again. This slump has seemed to last a little longer than what I am comfortable with, and I was fighting it…hard. I had a friend say to me, “What happens when the therapist is having a bad day?” Well, I am a therapist, and I love it, but I am also a person, a wife, a mother, and an imperfect human being.
I needed some inspiration.
I finally stopped fighting – at least in a frustrated way. I read this quote last week, and it helped me let go, just a little.
Sometimes I resist change so much that I become brittle instead of more flexible. Change happens. Learning to accept that reality and move forward is a sign of strength.
One of the things that I think I have learned about this life is that we are all imperfect. Social media sometimes presents a different picture, but no matter what people say online, we are imperfect. We have bad days. We make mistakes. Pretending perfection is exhausting. I love the imperfections that I see in others, because that helps me feel normal. It helps me learn. It helps me keep trying.
