Bird Sanctuary and a Sweet Hubby

So, this idea wasn’t totally my idea.  I bought the nests and the birds, and wanted to make something happen with my cove insert over my fireplace.  My sweet hubby went out and got several different types of branches for me to choose from.  We still have them on the side of our house! 🙂  He then suggested that we put them in a container and “make” a tree.  Well…it sounded a little corny.  But, once we got started, I loved it!!

For this project, you only need a few supplies:

tree branches

concrete

container

birds/nests as desired

We choose the branches of a cottonwood tree as they had beautiful white bark and some nice buds.  We got an old container and  filled it with dry concrete.  I put the branches in the concrete the way I wanted them, and we poured water into the container until it soaked through the dry cement.

I then let it sit overnight until it dried.  The amazing thing was that the buds opened even more after we cut them and put them in the concrete.  They must have gathered some moisture from the concrete!  It makes for an awesome tree.

I covered the container with burlap (ha ha – I love burlap!).  I added the birds and nest.

It makes me think of spring!  I love it.  Thank you honey for taking our Friday night date to do a project with me!!

Easy, frugal, and wonderfully Spring-y.  Plus, I don’t have to feed them or clean up after them.  Can there be a better bird sanctuary?? bird sanctuary5

Happy Spring!
