Well, my mother gave me this idea. She learned it from a friend and she uses it all the time. She has very dry skin (passed along to me) and this has helped her dry skin immensely. She uses it on more than her hands. If you don’t like the smell of baby lotion, feel free to use your favorite lotion (and scent). I used the baby lotion for half and used another lotion for the other half. I have used the balm with baby lotion on my girls and they love it! The scent is light and the balm is creamy, not greasy at all.
The other positive is that this truly is a frugal find. I paid $2 for the Delon Vitamin E cream (Dollar General) and the petroleum jelly was also a Dollar store find. The baby lotion is a little more expensive, but you can use an off-brand, if you choose. The only off-brand that didn’t work so well was Sesame Stress baby lotion. It still rubbed in nicely, but looked more curdled after mixing. The other lotion had been sitting in my cabinet since Christmas, and I figured this was a good way to make it last a little longer. I still have half a bottle left, plus a huge container of body balm! The smell of the balm with the Amber lotion is divine!!
This would be perfect for a Mother’s Day gift. Easy and not very expensive. Or, how about a gift for a friend? What a great idea!! If you choose, you could scent it with essential oils as well.
8 oz. Vitamin E Cream (see picture of Delon with argon oil)
8 oz. Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
16 oz. Baby lotion (or other favorite lotion)
Mix in mixer for 3 minutes or until it looks like whipped cream.
Put in jars! This really is nice. It is creamy and smooth and absorbs well. What a wonderful way to show your love: make a body balm!
Happy Mother’s Day week! I truly think mothers deserve more than a day! Come on!
