Pinteresting: DiY Lip Balm

So, another test from the frugal Pinterest test table.  I already had coconut oil and petroleum jelly, so the only investment was beeswax.  I found this little gem at Cox Honey for $1.55.  I only used a smidgen, so it was worth the investment!

I love, love lip balm, and my little ones love to use it too.  I hate buying them some, because usually it gets ruined quickly, and/or the cheap stuff tastes so bad!  I bought a package of them for my little ones for Christmas, and I couldn’t believe how nasty they were!

This is quick and simple.  It only requires three ingredients:

4 Tbsp. coconut oil

4 Tbsp. petroleum jelly

1 Tbsp. beeswax

Finely grate or chop beeswax.

DiY Lip Balm3Melt coconut oil in microwave for about 30 seconds.  Add petroleum jelly and beeswax.  Heat for 50 seconds in microwave.  Mix together.  Heat another 30 seconds or so until all ingredients are combined.

Pour into small containers (found some at Walmart) but there are also several choices on Amazon.  See here and here.

Put in fridge for 2 hours to solidify, then take out and use as needed. It does not need to be refrigerated after the first time to set it.

I found this was smooth and without any nasty flavors.  It actually doesn’t have any flavor at all that I could taste. It had no unpleasant smell, and felt creamy and nice!

I will be using this for the next little while.  Maybe if I get creative, I will try adding Kool-Aid next time.  We will see.  You can add color by adding a little blush or old lipstick to the mixture.  I liked clear, plus then I don’t worry about the little ones staining something with their new lip balm!!  🙂
